Which Lincoln Aviator Years Should I Avoid?

I’m currently considering purchasing a Lincoln Aviator, but I’ve come across some mixed reviews about its reliability. I’m particularly interested in knowing which model years are known to have issues that I should steer clear of.

Here’s what I’m hoping to find:

  • Specific years to avoid: If anyone has had firsthand experience or knows of reports that highlight certain model years fraught with problems, please share!
  • Common complaints: What are the recurring issues that owners have reported? Engine problems, electrical defects, or something else?
  • General advice: Any tips on what to look for when inspecting a used Aviator?

I’d really appreciate any insights or personal experiences you all might have. Thanks in advance for your help!

If you’re considering a Lincoln Aviator, I’d advise avoiding the 2003 and 2004 model years. I’ve seen a lot of complaints about engine issues, particularly with premature wear and oil leaks.

That’s interesting, bthomas! I’ve also heard about transmission failures in those same years. It seems like a trend.

Definitely avoid the 2005-2007 models as well. I know a few people who faced major electrical system malfunctions, which can be a headache and costly.

Wow, can you share more about those issues? I’m genuinely curious about what glitches you encountered.

The electrical problems were mostly related to the navigation and climate control systems. It really soured my experience with the car, and I’ve heard similar stories. Better to be safe than sorry!

You know, it’s frustrating when you spend a good amount on a luxury vehicle and face these reliability issues! My brother had to replace his engine at 60k miles on a 2004 model.

That’s rough! I’ve actually heard those engines can be a total lottery. Some last, while others just don’t.

Totally! It’s like playing a game of chance. I’ve even encountered folks who say the 2006 and 2007 models had a lot of quirks—definitely ones to think twice about.

You’re making me rethink this purchase! I was just about to pull the trigger on a 2006. Thanks for the heads up!

Remember, cars are like relationships; find the one that works for you without the drama! Avoid the problematic years, and you’ll thank yourself later.

Haha, that’s a great analogy! And definitely helpful advice. Thanks, everyone! I feel more informed now.

I’ve done a bit of research, and it seems like the 2003 and 2004 Lincoln Aviator years had quite a few recalls, mainly related to the brakes. It’s something to consider if you’re looking at those models.

Interesting points! I’ve heard that the 2005 and 2006 models also had issues with electrical systems. They might not be great options either.

Just to add on, the 2004 models have consistently lower safety ratings compared to other years. It could save you some headaches down the road if you avoid those.

That makes sense! Safety is key. I’m also curious about how the newer models stack up. Do they have better ratings?

From what I’ve seen, the 2020 and 2021 Aviators received good safety ratings. Much better than earlier years! Still, check for any recalls before buying.

Honestly, it’s quite a mixed bag with the Aviators. Some years seem to shine, while others are riddled with issues. I’d be wary of the 2003-2006 range if I were you.

Exactly. I wonder if any owners of those years have experiences they can share? It could really help us learn more.

I owned a 2004 Aviator, and it was quite the adventure! The recalls were frustrating, but I loved the look of the car. Thankfully, I traded it for a newer model!
