What's the deal with the VW ID.4 frunk? Any alternatives?

I’m really curious about the frunk (front trunk) situation in the VW ID.4. I’ve heard mixed things – some people say it doesn’t have one at all, while others are talking about modifying their vehicles to add storage options.

For those of you who own an ID.4, what has been your experience?

  • Is there really no frunk space?
  • Have you found good alternatives for storage?
  • Are there any aftermarket kits or modifications that you’ve tried to enhance storage?

It seems like a useful feature that many EVs have, so I’m surprised the ID.4 doesn’t offer it as standard. If you’ve had to figure out ways to make up for this lack, I’d love to hear your thoughts and any tips you might have on maximizing storage in the ID.4.

The VW ID.4’s frunk is relatively small, around frunk, with about 2.9 cubic feet of space. It’s great for small items like bags or groceries, but not for larger items. What’s everyone else’s experience with using it?

I find the frunk quite handy for keeping things out of sight! I usually throw in my charging cables and a small cooler for snacks on road trips. Every bit of space helps!

It’s about the same as most EVs in its class, but I think the usability really depends on what you plan to store. For anyone who has used it, what do you think is the best way to maximize that space?

You could use packing cubes to organize smaller items. It keeps things neat and makes it easier to find what you need quickly!

Anyone experienced issues with the frunk’s lid? I had one friend who said it didn’t close properly after a car wash, which was odd. Just curious if that’s a common problem.

The frunk is perfect for those of us who like to keep things organized! Although it’s small, I use mine for emergency kits and some tools. Way better than cluttering up the cabin! Glad I have it.

That’s a smart use! I’d thought about using it for an emergency kit, too, but I also want to keep my frunk versatile for grocery runs.

I think many feel that way! But consider how often you’d actually use a bigger one. Any chance you’d switch to a different EV just for a larger frunk?

I haven’t switched, but sometimes I joke that I need a ‘frunk extension’ for when I go on adventures! It would be ridiculous but also very fun!

Haha! A frunk extension would be a game changer! Like a little inflatable frunk for extra storage! But seriously, it serves its purpose for everyday tasks.

Hey everyone! I’m curious about the frunk in the VW ID.4. How easy is it to access? Are there any cool features like remote opening?

The frunk can be opened with a button on the key fob, which is super convenient! You can also access it from the touchscreen inside. It’s surprisingly spacious too!

That’s good to know! Does it make a loud noise when it’s opening? I’d hate to wake the neighbors.

No worries there! The frunk opens smoothly and quietly. Definitely doesn’t sound like a traditional hood; it’s quite sleek.

What about the size? I’ve heard it’s pretty spacious, but will it fit my groceries or more substantial items?

Absolutely! The frunk is spacious enough for a couple of grocery bags, and it’s designed to store things without squashing them. Good for road trips!

That sounds perfect! Are there any other features worth mentioning?

The frunk also comes with a drainage system – great for wet items! Plus, easy to clean, since you can just wash it out.

Drainage? That’s a game changer! Do you think it could hold a small cooler for tailgating?
