What’s the 0-60 Time for the 2021 M5 Competition?

I’ve been hearing a lot about the 2021 BMW M5 Competition and its incredible performance metrics. Specifically, I want to dig into the 0-60 times – what are they really like?

From what I’ve gathered, various sources list the M5 Competition hitting 0-60 in around 3 seconds, which is mind-blowing! But I’m looking for more than just numbers here.

  • Owner Experiences: If you have one, what’s your real-world experience?
  • Comparisons: How does it stack up against the standard M5 and perhaps other luxury sports sedans?
  • Performance Insights: What factors contribute to achieving those impressive times? Traction, tires, or maybe driving style?

I’d love to hear your thoughts and any personal anecdotes about this beast of a car. Let’s get the discussion going!

The 2021 M5 Competition does 0-60 mph in about 3.1 seconds! That’s impressive compared to its rivals, like the E63 S and the Audi RS7. Both of those are in the same performance ballpark, but I’d love to hear opinions on how they feel in everyday driving.

Absolutely! The M5 Competition definitely has a thrill factor. But how about that AMG E63 S? I’ve seen it hitting 0-60 in around 3.3 seconds. It sounds close, but I’d argue the M5 has the edge in handling.

That’s a good point, @ajackson! I’ve driven the E63 S, and while it feels strong, the M5’s steering and feedback are just phenomenal. It really engages the driver on a different level. Anyone else tested both?

@fbeck, I’ve taken both for a spin! The M5’s throttle response is razor-sharp, but I found the E63’s interior a bit more luxurious. Both are beasts in their own way!

What’s the weight difference between these models? The M5’s power-to-weight ratio is pretty good at 600 hp. I think that contributes significantly to its impressive acceleration.

Great point, @royhodges! The AMG E63 S is slightly heavier, which might be why it feels a bit slower off the line despite similar power figures. Have you checked out the Porsche Panamera Turbo? It’s also in this league and can do 0-60 in 3.0 seconds.

I did see that, @kathryngonzalez! The Panamera’s styling is a bit more understated, but it definitely packs a punch. It sometimes flies under the radar compared to the flashy M5.

@jordanramirez, totally! Plus, Porsche’s handling is legendary. I guess it’s all about what you value more: straight-line speed or track capability. Any other comparisons we should dig into?

Can we also talk about price? The M5 Competition is competitively priced, but with options, it can climb. Anyone know if the performance justifies the price tag for the E63 S and RS7?

Good question, @calderondavid! The E63 S is a bit pricier overall, in part due to its luxury features. But with the M5’s performance, I’d say it’s worth it. Just be ready for those maintenance costs!

Maintenance costs are real! @sshaw, at least you have peace of mind knowing you’re driving a high-performance sedan. It’s like buying a gym membership; you’re in for the long haul once you commit!

Haha, true, @richardsonmallory! But let’s also remember that the thrill of the drive is worth every penny. If you drive it right, the M5 will make those costs fade away as you experience that acceleration.

Exactly! Performance and enjoyment are key. @david38, have you noticed any major long-term issues with the M5? I’d be curious to hear more perceived reliability over time.

I’ve had my 2021 M5 Competition for a few months now, and I clocked a solid 0-60 mph in just around 3.1 seconds on a good day. Just make sure the pavement is dry!

That sounds great, but what about colder weather? I’ve heard that can really slow you down. Any thoughts?

In my experience, I hit about 3.3 seconds, but it was pouring rain that day. Definitely affected traction. Sunny conditions make all the difference!

Exactly! I find if the temperature is below 60°F, it impacts the grip. What is the ideal temperature for performance?

I think anywhere around 70°F seems perfect! It’s like the car just knows how to launch. Also, don’t forget about your tires!

Totally! I swapped to performance tires last month and I saw a noticeable improvement in my 0-60 times.
