Why is Pre-Collision Assist Not Available in My Ford?

I’ve recently been getting the warning ‘Pre-Collision Assist Not Available’ on my Ford, and it’s really concerning. This feature is supposed to help with safety, so I want to get to the bottom of why it’s not working.

Common Reasons for the Warning

  • Sensor Blockage: Sometimes dirt or debris can block the sensors that detect obstacles. It’s a good idea to check if the sensors are clean.
  • Software Glitches: Like any technology, software issues can cause features to malfunction. A reset might help, or checking for software updates from Ford.
  • Faulty Components: There may be a more significant issue with the hardware associated with the pre-collision assist system. If you’ve checked everything else, it might be worth having it inspected.

What to Do Next

  • Inspect the Sensors: Take a close look at the front of your vehicle and clean any grime off the sensors if you see any.
  • Consult the Manual: The owner’s manual may have troubleshooting tips specific to your model year.
  • Visit the Dealer: If the issue persists, visiting a Ford dealership or a certified mechanic can help diagnose the problem more thoroughly.

I’d love to hear if anyone else has faced this issue and what steps you’ve taken to resolve it. Let’s share our experiences and solutions!

I’ve been seeing the ‘Pre-Collision Assist Not Available’ message for weeks! It seems to happen mostly on longer drives. Anyone else have this issue?

Totally! I noticed it at random times, but it usually pops up when I’m driving in heavy rain. Strange, right?

I got the message too! Mine showed up after hitting a pothole. I thought it was a coincidence until the warnings became frequent. Could it be related to sensor issues?

Definitely sounds like a sensor issue. My Ford manual mentions cleaning the cameras and sensors—maybe that helps?

I experienced a similar thing. I got a warning message saying ‘Camera Blocked’ when I was parked under a tree. I guess some branches can really interfere!

Yeah! I’ve had the same issue. It’s funny how nature can interfere with technology, isn’t it?

I’ve received messages like ‘Sensor Malfunction’ while driving at night. It always gets me worried! I wonder if that’s a common error.

I’ve noticed that too! Could it be that headlights affect the sensors in some way? Such a frustrating issue!

I had a weird experience. The warning popped up after I went through a car wash. I thought I broke something!

That’s both humorous and alarming! I’m starting to think I should give my car a break from washes!

I wonder if anyone here has reported this to Ford? It might be beneficial for us to share our experiences with them directly.

That’s a great idea! If we reach out together, we could gather enough info to get better support.

I recently saw the ‘Pre-Collision Assist Not Available’ message in my Ford too. It can happen due to sensor obstructions, like dirt or ice. Have you checked the sensors on the front of your car?

I think you’re right! I cleaned mine, and it worked. But sometimes, it’s a software glitch too. Have you updated your system lately?

Software updates can definitely fix issues! I had to take mine in to get updated last year. It’s a bummer when something so important doesn’t work right!

It really is! And if it’s a hardware issue, that can be even more frustrating. What kind of Ford do you have?

I have a 2020 Escape. I took it to Ford, and they mentioned potential hardware failures can cause the message as well. Did anyone else face that?

Yes! My dealership told me the same thing when I brought in my 2019 Fusion. It ended up being a faulty sensor, which they replaced under warranty.

That’s great to hear, @samanthawalker! If the sensors are faulty, at least you had it covered. Any tips on how to tell if it’s just a sensor obstruction?
