What Winter Tires are Best for a Mustang GT?

I’m looking for some advice on winter tires for my Ford Mustang GT. I’ve heard a lot of differing opinions on whether a rear-wheel-drive sports car is suitable for winter driving, but I really want to make sure I’m safe this winter season.

Things I’m Considering:

  • Tire Performance: How do winter tires perform on a Mustang GT? Are there specific brands or models that you’d recommend?
  • Driving Conditions: What kind of icy or snowy conditions have you faced while using winter tires with your Mustang? Any experiences to share?
  • Set-Up: Should I consider changing anything else besides tires for optimal winter handling?

It would be great to hear about your personal experiences, any brands you trust, and how well you think a Mustang can handle winter with the right tires. Thank you in advance for your input!

For a Mustang GT, I’d highly recommend the Bridgestone Blizzak WS90. They offer fantastic grip on ice and snow. The only downside is they wear out faster than other options. Anyone else tried them?

I agree, the Blizzak is great! However, I’ve had good luck with Michelin X-Ice as well. A bit quieter and solid in deep snow!

I’ve used the Goodyear Ultra Grip Ice WRT on my GT and was really impressed. They provide excellent control in slushy conditions but aren’t as effective on dry roads. Just my two cents!

What about Nokian Hakkapeliitta? I’ve heard they’re top-notch but quite pricey. Anyone had personal experience with them?

I’ve had Hakkapeliitta 8s, and they are indeed fantastic on snow and ice. The cost is high, but the performance is worth it for winter driving.

I tried the Continental VikingContact 7 last winter, and I think they offer a good balance of performance and durability. They suited my needs pretty well!

I’ve always leaned towards Continental for their longevity. However, how do they fare on icy surfaces?

Has anyone tried using all-season tires during winter instead? Some say they can be a decent compromise but I’m skeptical.

I wouldn’t advise that for a Mustang GT. The risk of losing traction is way too high in snowy conditions.

Haha, I can imagine a Mustang doing donuts on snow – not safe, but would be hilarious. Still, winter tires are a must for handling!

I know some people swear by the Toyo Observe GSi-6. They say it’s excellent for both snow and dry conditions. Anyone want to share insights?

I’ve had them, and while they perform well in snow, their tread life left a bit to be desired. Just something to consider.

It seems like everyone has a favorite! I’d also love to hear more experiences with the Firestone Winterforce. Are they worth it?

I used the Winterforce last year. They are affordable but grip isn’t as strong as others mentioned here. Good for the budget-minded!

Reflecting on all these suggestions, it’s clear that picking winter tires is crucial for safety. Every brand has its strengths and weaknesses.

Winter tires are crucial for performance in snowy conditions. Look for a set that is specifically rated for winter use to ensure grip and safety.

I’ve had great experiences with the Michelin X-Ice series for my Mustang! They handle really well in icy conditions and are super durable.

Definitely consider going to a professional for installation if you’re not experienced. They have the right tools and know how to align everything perfectly.

While I agree with @saramyers, if you’re confident, DIY can be rewarding! Just make sure you have a jack, torque wrench, and proper spacers if needed.
