What’s the Best Windshield Tint for My Model Y?

I’m considering tinting the windshield of my Tesla Model Y and would love some advice from those who’ve already done it. What tint options have you found to be the best?

Here are a few things I’m curious about:

  • Heat Reduction: Which tints offer the most effective heat reduction? I live in a pretty hot area, so this is a top priority for me.
  • UV Protection: How well does your tint protect against UV rays? I’ve heard some options are better than others.
  • Legal Aspects: Are there specific tint percentages that we’ve got to stick to? I want to make sure I stay on the right side of the law.
  • Installation Tips: Did you DIY, or did you go to a professional? Any recommendations?

I’m also interested in hearing about any aesthetic outcomes; how does it change the look of the Model Y? If you have pics, those would be great too! Looking forward to your insights!

I’m considering getting my Model Y tinted as well. It’s essential to check the local regulations first since some states have strict rules about windshield tinting. For example, California allows 70% VLT for the front windshield. Anyone have a complete list of state limits?

I’ve found a couple of resources online that list the regulations by state. Just a reminder, some places might require a certificate for any tinting done, so keep that in mind when getting it done!

One thing to watch out for is the possibility of being pulled over. I’ve heard that in Florida, they can be pretty strict about the limits. I wonder how that affects Model Y owners specifically—anyone had that experience?

I got tinted in Texas, and thankfully I haven’t had issues with law enforcement. I think having an eye-catching car like the Model Y may get you noticed more though!

What about heat rejection? Some tints claim to offer better protection against UV rays without being too dark. That could be a good compromise for Model Y owners, right? But again, the legal limits need to be adhered to!

Absolutely! It’s frustrating, but better safe than sorry. Plus, getting tints that are too dark can affect your insurance premium and resale value on your Model Y.

I’ve been thinking about using a lighter film, like 35% for the front windshield. It provides some privacy while still keeping you within legal limits in many states. What’s everyone else’s opinion on that?

35% sounds like a good balance! I also read somewhere that some films can help with glare, making driving safer. That could be a plus for Model Y drivers for night-time driving.

Has anyone considered ceramic tints? I’ve heard they’re great for heat rejection and are usually lighter, which helps in staying within the legal tint limits.

Ceramic tints are nice! They can be pricey, but if they help you avoid the heat, it might be worth it. Just wish the laws were clearer across states—makes it confusing for us owners.

Totally agree with you! Who knew the world of tinting could be a rollercoaster? Maybe I should just go for a transparency treatment instead and avoid the hassle! LOL.

I’m currently researching the best windshield tints for the Model Y. I’ve heard a lot about XPEL and 3M. Anyone used them?

I’ve used XPEL on my Model Y, and the clarity is amazing! Plus, it really does a great job at heat rejection. Highly recommend it!

I went with the 3M Ceramic IR film, and I’ve been very pleased! It’s durable and looks great. It also blocks a significant amount of UV rays.

Nice! I was leaning towards that one. Do you find it effective in reducing heat inside the car?

Absolutely! The heat reduction is noticeable. It’s perfect for those hot summer days. You should definitely consider it.

I just got my Model Y tinted with Ceramic Pro. It adds a nice ceramic coating that enhances durability alongside the tint. So far, so good!

That sounds interesting! Is it noticeably different from regular films?

Yes, definitely! The coating offers additional protection against scratches and adds a bit of gloss, making the car look sharp.
