Not Possible to Connect to This Device in BMW - Help Needed!

I’m having an issue with my BMW that’s driving me crazy: I’m getting a message saying “not possible to connect to this device” when I try to pair my phone via Bluetooth. I’ve tried a few troubleshooting steps, but nothing seems to work.

Here are some things I’ve already done:

  • Restarted my phone and the car’s infotainment system.
  • Made sure my phone’s Bluetooth is turned on and it’s visible.
  • Checked for any software updates for both my phone and the BMW system.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Questions:

  • Are there specific settings in my BMW that I might be missing?
  • Should I completely reset the infotainment system?
  • Is there any known compatibility issue with certain phone models?

Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I’m having the same issue! Have you checked your device settings? Sometimes the Bluetooth isn’t even turned on.

I agree! Also, try restarting both your device and the BMW system. It’s a simple fix that works often.

Is your BMW’s software up to date? Sometimes these connection issues are solved with the latest updates! Check your owner’s manual.

Great point! I had a similar issue until I updated. Check your phone settings too for compatibility!

Compatibility issues can be a pain! What devices are you trying to connect? Some older models have trouble with newer devices.

I’m trying to connect an iPhone 12 with my 2017 BMW. Is that supposed to work?

It should work! Have you tried resetting the Bluetooth connection? Delete the existing pair and re-pair it fresh.

Good idea! I always forget that step. Technology, right?

If none of this works, a visit to the dealership might be necessary. They can run diagnostics on the system.

Ugh, I’m trying to avoid that! I might just end up writing an angry letter to BMW instead.

Maybe throw in a joke in that letter? Something like, ‘Why did the BMW owner cross the road? To connect to Bluetooth!’

Haha, that made my day! But seriously, we’re all just trying to make our lives easier with technology.

I recently faced the same issue with my BMW not recognizing my phone. After trying several devices, I discovered that updating my vehicle’s software resolved the problem. Definitely check for updates!

That’s a great tip! Have you used any specific tools to check for updates or compatibility?

I struggled with this for a while too! My workaround was using the BMW Connected app, which helped me manage my devices. It may not be perfect, but it definitely made the connection more reliable.

I’ll have to give that app a shot! Did it help with anything beyond connecting devices?

Another issue might be device compatibility. I have an older phone that wouldn’t connect, but after switching to a newer model, it worked immediately. Always check BMW’s list of compatible devices if you can!

Thanks for the advice! I had no idea they had a compatibility list. Where can I find it?

I’ve had mixed results with Bluetooth connections. Once, it took me over an hour to connect my smartwatch! I found that turning off and on the car’s Bluetooth worked wonders. Sometimes a simple reset is all you need.
