How much should I expect to pay for a Tesla windshield replacement?

I’m reaching out to the community because I’m in a bit of a bind. Recently, my Tesla got hit by a flying rock while driving, and now I have a small crack that seems to be spreading. I’m really concerned about the costs involved in getting it replaced, especially because I know Tesla parts can sometimes be pricey.

Here’s what I’m hoping to find out:

  • Cost Estimates: What has been your experience with getting a windshield replaced on your Tesla? Any specific costs you can share?
  • Dealer vs. Independent Shops: Is it better to go through a Tesla service center, or have some of you had success with independent auto glass shops? What are the pros and cons?
  • Insurance Coverage: If you’ve had your windshield replaced through insurance, how did that process go? Were you able to get any portion covered?
  • Time to Replace: How long does the replacement process typically take? I don’t want to be without my car for too long.

I’ve done a little research online, but I’d love to hear from actual Tesla owners about their experiences. Thanks in advance for any input! It would really help me to know what I might be looking at financially and what steps I should take next.

I’m looking at around $1,500 to $2,500 for a Tesla windshield replacement. It varies based on location and the model you have. Labor costs tend to be high since Tesla requires special training.

That’s true! And don’t forget about calibration for the sensors—it can add another $300-$500 to the total bill.

On top of that, you may also face additional fees for parts or if your model requires special glass. It’s best to check with your local Tesla service center for a quote.

I’ve seen some aftermarket options that can save you a few bucks, but make sure they’re compatible. You don’t want to jeopardize safety features!

But does anyone actually recommend those? I’d be nervous about quality and safety.

Good point, janetwilcox! It’s definitely a risk. Better to stick with OEM glass if you want peace of mind. Plus, Tesla’s warranty might not cover aftermarket repairs.

It depends on where you live too. Urban areas might have more expensive rates, while rural areas may offer competitive pricing. Always shop around for estimates!

Exactly! I was quoted $2,000 in the city, but found a shop outside that did it for $1,500.

What’s the turnaround time usually like? I can’t be without my car for long. But if you can get it done quickly, the cost might be worth it.

Hopefully, it won’t take longer than a day. But if they need to do a full calibration, that could extend the time. Something to consider when budgeting!

And if you’re really tight on cash, consider insurance coverage. They might pay for it, and you could just deal with your deductible. Has anyone done that?

That’s what I plan to do! Just hope it doesn’t break the bank with my deductible!

I recently had my Tesla windshield replaced, and I paid about $1,200 at a Tesla service center. The quality was excellent, but it was a bit pricey. I’d recommend checking with certified Tesla dealers for the best experience.

Great to know! Can you share if you had issues with your insurance covering any of that cost? My insurance is a bit unclear on it!

I had mine done for around $1,000, but it was through a local shop that specializes in Teslas. They did a fantastic job, much more cost-effective than going through Tesla directly.

Can you share the shop name? I’d love to check them out, saving money is always a win!

I went to an authorized Tesla shop in my area, and they were super professional. The cost was about $1,500, but they provided a lifetime warranty on the work. Definitely worth it for peace of mind!

I’ve been hearing mixed things about Tesla’s service. Some say it’s amazing, others warn it can take ages. How’s your experience been with the timing?

I had a good experience with timing. They scheduled me in a few days and the actual replacement took just a couple of hours. I’d recommend not waiting too long if you notice cracks!
