Looking for Insights on Rivian Roof Top Tent Options

I’m really interested in adding a rooftop tent to my Rivian R1T for some upcoming camping trips, but I’m not sure where to start. I’ve read a bit about Rivian’s own tent offerings, but I’m also curious about what the community thinks.

Here are a few questions I have:

  • Official vs. Third-party Tents: Are the official Rivian tents worth the investment, or have you found better options with other brands?
  • Compatibility: How seamless is it to integrate the tent with the R1T’s design? Are there any modifications needed?
  • Features to Look For: What features should I prioritize when choosing a rooftop tent for my Rivian, especially for two or three-person use?
  • User Experiences: For those who already own a rooftop tent for their Rivian, how has your experience been? Any pros or cons?

I’m looking for insights on pricing, durability, and any tips you have for maximizing outdoor adventures with these tents. Thanks in advance for your help!

I’m really interested in this topic! I have a Rivian R1T and I’m thinking about getting a rooftop tent. What are the best models that fit?

Most roof top tents fit the R1T, but I recommend checking out brands like Tepui and iKamper. Just ensure you have the right crossbars or adapters!

I’ve done a bit of research, and it seems like adding proper crossbars is essential. Does anyone know the best adapters for the R1S?

Rivian offers their own crossbars that are compatible with the R1S. They’re designed for easy mounting of rooftop tents. Just make sure they’re properly secured!

I heard the installation process can be tricky. Is it really necessary to drill into the roof, or can you avoid that with the right setup?

No drilling is needed if you use the correct brackets and crossbars! Many users have done it without any modifications.

I’m considering going camping this summer with my R1T! Do the rooftop tents impact fuel efficiency at all?

Yes, they can reduce fuel efficiency due to increased drag. But it’s totally worth it for the camping experience! Just plan for it.

Does anyone have a specific tent model they recommend? I want something easy to set up. I’m not very handy!

The iKamper Skycamp 2.0 is great! Very user-friendly and just fits the R1T perfectly. You’ll love it!

I noticed some tents require a weight limit consideration. What’s the maximum weight the Rivian roof can handle? Anyone know?

The roof of the R1T can support about 220 lbs when driving, and around 600 lbs stationary. So, you have some good options out there!

I think it’s great that Rivian supports outdoor adventures. Makes me feel like I picked the right vehicle! What a fun way to camp! :camping:

Totally agree! But don’t forget to check the weather and secure the tent well. You don’t want a surprise in the middle of the night! :joy:

Has anyone had issues with rooftop tents in high winds? I worry about stability during storms.

It can be a concern, but many brands design for wind resistance. Look for ones with a low profile; they tend to perform better in those conditions!

I’ve been looking into rooftop tents for my Rivian too! I found the Tepui Autana to be quite spacious and user-friendly. Pricing ranges from $1,500 to $3,000 depending on features.

Great choice with the Tepui! I also heard that the Yakima SkyRise is a solid option. It’s a bit cheaper and easy to set up, but maybe smaller than the Tepui?

I’d recommend checking out the iKamper series as well. They have incredible insulation and expand quickly, but they’re on the pricier side, usually starting at $3,800.
