Are BMW Remote Services Really Free Now?

I’ve been hearing a lot of buzz about BMW’s remote services lately, especially with the MyBMW app and BMW Connected Drive. Just a few months ago, many of these features came with a subscription fee, but now it seems like they might be available for free to some users.

Here are a few questions I have:

  • What remote services are currently free, if any?
  • Are there any specific models that benefit from this change?
  • What are the limitations or conditions we should be aware of? For example, do you still have to have a premium package, or is it available to all owners?

It would be great to hear from those who have already experienced the recent changes. What has your experience been regarding the accessibility and functionality of these services? Let’s share insights and help clarify things for those of us who are still trying to figure it out!

I recently started using BMW Remote Services, and I must say, the vehicle status checks are super helpful! I love being able to see my fuel level before heading out.

Absolutely! The remote locking/unlocking feature is a lifesaver too. I often forget if I’ve locked my car, so it’s nice to check from my phone.

I’ve been using the climate control settings to preheat my car during winter, and it’s the best feature ever. No more freezing seats!

Haha, totally agree! Those chilly mornings are brutal! Has anyone experienced any hiccups with these features?

The features are great overall! I did have some trouble getting the remote locking to work initially, but a quick app update solved it. Just keep your app updated!

I agree with snowdanny. Keeping the app updated is critical! I love the status alerts too. Always know if there’s an issue with the car.

What about security? Are there concerns regarding these remote features? I’m a bit anxious about using them.

I had similar concerns! But as long as you use secure passwords and don’t share your login, it should be fine.

That’s a good point! I always wonder how secure it really is, especially with so many apps today being hacked. Anyone heard of any breaches?

Not that I know of! Overall, I feel comfortable using the features. They add such convenience. Plus, I like to show off the remote start to my friends!

Haha, I did that too! It’s a great conversation starter at parties! Anyone find any hidden features they love?

I discovered you can set geofencing alerts! It’s super handy if you loan your car to someone. You’ll know if they take it out of a certain area!

Wow, I didn’t know about that feature, codydaniels! Geofencing sounds so useful. I’ll definitely set that up for my teen driver.

I think it’s also a great idea to familiarize yourself with the app. There are so many features, and exploring them can make all the difference!

Exactly! It’s like using an iPhone for the first time; once you learn the features, you can’t live without them!

I’m new to BMW and still figuring everything out. Do you guys think these remote services are worth it compared to other brands?

I’m curious about the eligibility for free remote services too. Do all BMW models from 2020 onwards qualify or just certain ones? Would love to get some clarity on this!

From what I’ve found, it seems that only specific models within the 2020 and newer range qualify for free services. You might want to check BMW’s official site or app for the exact models listed.

I have a 2021 3 Series and I was able to activate remote services without any issues. My friend with a 2019 model didn’t have the same luck—seems like year matters a lot! Check your model year!
