Anyone tried roof bars for their Nissan Leaf?

I went with the Thule roof bars, and they fit perfectly. Remember to also check weight limits; the Leaf isn’t designed for heavy loads on top.

Good point about the weight limit! Did you face any problems during installation?

Not really! The most challenging part was getting the clamps adjusted properly. Once that was done, it went smoothly. Just take your time!

Has anyone tried installing roof bars without the manufacturer’s kit? I heard it can be quite a hassle…

I’ve heard mixed reviews. Some say it can work, but it’s best to stick to what fits well.

Totally! Also, don’t forget to check if your roof has any mounting points to avoid any drilling… that’s a nightmare waiting to happen!

Great advice! Are there any specific tools you all think are essential for the job?

You’ll mainly just need a socket set and possibly a level to ensure everything is straight. Maybe a friend to help hold things in place!

Don’t forget the importance of a good set of instructions. Sometimes it can feel like a game of Tetris trying to fit all the bits together.

Haha, true! I love a puzzle, but that does sound frustrating. Any installation stories to share?

One time, I installed it wrong and had to redo it at night. Let’s just say I learned from that ‘learning experience’!

Now that’s a lesson! Maybe I’ll make sure to do mine during daylight hours. Thanks for sharing! Anyone have a link to a good video walkthrough?

You can find a couple of good tutorials on YouTube. I used one for my installation, really helpful to see it in action!

Perfect! I’ll check those out. This thread has been super helpful, everyone!

I’ve been using roof bars on my Nissan Leaf for a year now! Just make sure to check the load capacity; most bars can handle about 100-150 lbs. It’s crucial not to exceed this for safety.

Thanks for sharing! I was worried about the weight limits. Any tips on securing cargo safely?

When securing items, use straps that can handle varying weather. Cross them under the load and tighten them well. You can also use a cargo net for extra security.

Great advice! Any specific brands you recommend?

I’ve had good luck with Rhino-Rack straps. They’re durable and weather-resistant, perfect for roof storage.

It’s also important to distribute weight evenly. A lopsided load can affect your driving and create safety issues.
